Resources for parents
Illinois Legal Aid
The Illinois Legal Aid website allows parents to see the evaluation of their child from a legal stand point. It explains to the parents the purpose of the evaluation, who pays for an evaluation, and how to request an evaluation. It then goes on to say what goes on in an evaluation and also talks a little bit about what occurs after the evaluation. What I found interesting about this sight was that it stated that if the parent disagreed with the evaluation, it said what steps the parent should take. I think this would be a very important site for a parent to look over before a case study is done on his or her child because it talks about the legal aspect and also the most basic components of the evaluation which I find extremely necessary to know. This site also lists legal advisers who can help more with legal counsel if need be.

National Center for Learning Disabilities
The National Center for Learning Disabilities offers parents a lot of information. It explains what a learning disability is and also goes into detail about several learning disabilities. It also has several things just for parents, such as early signs of learning disabilities and has several things about the evaluation, the child's rights, and also how to deal with things after a child is diagnosed with a learning disability. This site has a lot of things specifically for the parent to inform him or her what is going on and also how to deal with it. Another nice thing about this website is that it allows the parent to search for resource centers in their area for specific things, such as speech-language problems or evaluation counsel. This website is perfect for parents who are confused and need information about what is going on and what actions they should take.

Rush NeuroBehavioral Center
Rush NeuroBehavioral Center helps parents deal with the clinical aspect of learning disabilities. This center provides evaluation and treatment. If a parent second guessed the evaluation of their child, they could bring their child here and have another evaluation done. The parent could also meet with a psychologist here and discuss the evaluation process from the psychologist's point of view and ask any questions they may have. If a student is diagnosed with a learning disability that requires a psychologist's or a psychiatrist's assistance, they can come to the Rush NeuroBehavioral Center for help. This website is especially important for the parent because if his or her child does have a learning disability and needs psychological assistance, this is a great place to go.
