Reviewing my measure of success
I have definitely accomplished my goal of learning different ways of teaching. After learning about different learning styles, I have realized a little more than that I need to vary my teaching style in order to make sure that I do not leave any students out. I also still plan on making a binder with all of my notes from this term and keeping it with me for when I get my first teaching job. I honestly believe that it will help me a lot when I start planning my lessons and my classroom set up.
The biggest reason why I feel that this was a successful experience was because I learned a lot in this class that I honestly did not think I would learn. When I came in the class the first day, I thought this was just going to be another boring required class that I would have to take for my minor; I did not think that I would learn anything that was not common sense or that I did not know already. I was greatly wrong, though. I learned so much that I had not known and that was not common knowledge that I was shocked. Obviously, there were a few things that I had known already or that was common knowledge, but not very much. As I had stated on my weekly assignment for transfer, I had never heard of transfer before this class. I am a little ashamed of this, but it was never taught to me in my other psychology classes nor in any of my other classes. This concept alone is very essential for me to know because this is what I must be able to teach my own students when I start teaching in order to help them learn the German or Spanish language the best that they can. I want to be able to teach students so well that eventually they are able to talk fluently, or that they loved learning so much in my classroom that they decide to major in German like I am. I do not want to be an ordinary teacher, and this class definitely helped me learn some things to make sure that I am not. I also want to be create a great classroom environment which I believe that one of the modules explained very well. I believe this class is probably one of the most necessary classes for me to take as an secondary education minor, and I wish that more of an emphasis was placed on its importance instead of it just being viewed as a required class.
The only thing that I can think of that I wish I could have made better was my online quiz scores. For some reason, I had a really hard time with some of those. I believe that a lot of times the wording of the question kind of threw me off, but I believe that a couple times I thought that all of the answers were correct and the question was a little unfair. Now, this most definitely could have just been my view and I was reading the question incorrectly or I was not interpreting it correctly.
There is one more thing that I wish I would have done for this class: I wish I would have done the weekly assignments when we were learning about the topics instead of when I had free time. I think that if I had done it at the time we were learning, I would have been able to connect everything together more. Unfortunately, I did not really have the time to do that, so I did it whenever I did have time, but I wish I had attempted to fit it in my schedule somewhere just so I would have made a better connection.
I can honestly say that I truly enjoyed this class and learned a lot from it that I know will help me in the future. I am very greatful that this class is a requirement for my secondary education minor because I feel like without it, I would be missing an essential component that would change me from a good teacher to a possibly great teacher.
